Visesh:

It is said that: After killing RavanA, RAmA stayed  in the ThrudanEthra muni’s Ashram in this place. As told by the muni, he made a cow in Gold, stayed in that for three days and gave it as a charity to a Brahmin; as that Brahmin built this temple with that resource, it acquired the name Semponsei koil ( meaning ‘temple made from Gold’ ).
Lord Siva to get rid of the Brahma hathi is said to have performed ‘A kAdasarudhra’ aswamedha yAga; at the time of PoornAhUthi, the Lord NArAyanA appeared with BruhmAdhi dhevAs; as per the request of Rudhra at that time he took 11 roopAs ( forms ) and along with RudhrA He is said to be fulfilling the bhakthAs abheeshtams, in the 11dhivya dhesams created for Rudhra to perform poojAs.
One Mukunthan, son of  a poor Brahmin by the name Kasyapan from Kanchi, came here and uttered the AshtAshara manthra advised by the lord, thirty two thousand times in three days and obtained the affluence he sought, thro’  lord’s divine grace.Hence it is said that if some body stays here for 3days and utters the AshtAshara manthra for 32,000times, they will get all the wealth desired by them, by the lord’s grace.

This lord also participates in the grand ThiruNAngur 11 Garuda seva uthsavam, on the day after Thai AmAvasya.

This temple is also in a bad shape and any assistance is welcome and also is accompanied by a request to visit. ThirumangaiAzhwar has sung 10 stanzas on this lord.
