Sthala purAnam:
Chandran came to this sthalam, stayed here,
used to take bath in the pushakrini ( pond ) and prayed
the Lord for the removal of his curse because of which he had lost his
shine totally; the merciful God helped Chandra get over his curse
accepting his penance and true repentance and hence is known as Chandra
sAba harar; Chandra got back his full splendour; hence the temple tank
( pond ) is also called Chandra pushkarini.
Besides as this was the place where best
shells ( Sanku in Tamil ) were traded, it acquired part of the name ( thalaisankam
) and the balance of the name it acquired because of its association
with moon ( NAnmadhiyam ). As this place was once a thick forest it also
acquired the name kAdu ( meaning forest ) and hence called ThalaichankAdu
( thalaisankam + kAdu ).
Visesh:
There is a very precious Sanku ( Coonch ) for the lord, here.Though the AndAl vigraham ( Idol ) is small here, it is very beautiful.
ThirumangaiAzhwar has sung two pAsurams on the deity.
As this is one of the Divya desams not well
connected by transport facilities, it has very few visitors; hence it is
our humble request that every devotee make an attempt to visit the
temple and have a Darshan of the God and contribute his might ( by physical
presence and monetarily to the extent
one can ).
Our trust is currently doing nitya aradana
